South African Batter Scores 256 Runs Off 77 Balls In Mammoth T20 Score
Compared to the highest ever scores in this format of the game at a List-A level, that would be six runs ahead of Nepal's 314/3 against Mongolia a few weeks earlier in September. The only story bigger than this mammoth total was the batting of young run-maker Dylan Kruger.
The promising Kruger smashed a spectacularly breath-taking 256 runs from 77 deliveries. Two. Hundred. And. Fifty. Six. Runs. OFF 77 BALLS! Ridiculous! Totally obscene!
It's one thing FOR A TEAM to score 200 runs in a Twenty20 match, because this total would be beyond most teams. It's another if said team scores 260-odd, which sounds un-chaseable. However, if one person scores all these runs in just under 13 overs of an innings, then please do me a favour and get out of here. Quickly.
Contextually, Kruger was two deliveries short off the fastest century ever at the top level, scoring his off 33 balls in comparison to the great AB de Villiers’ 31 deliveries for South Africa against the West Indies. The first 50 runs came after a fast 20 deliveries, for good measure.
He then thundered to the 150 runs off a staggering 48
balls. Eight overs to reach 151, folks. Kruger then raised the bat at 201 runs
after 62 balls, a strike rate of only 324 because that just makes sense
to us all!
By the time Kruger had hit 253, he had done this off 75
(SEVENTY-FIVE) deliveries, a strike rate off 337, which would come to 332
overall. It was clear at this point in his innings that he was hobbling from
end-to-end as this historic innings caught with him. For perspective, the
highest recorded individual score in a men’s T20 innings is Chris Gayles’ 175*
from 66 runs for the Royal Challengers Bangalore against the Pune Warriors in
the 2013 Indian Premier League.
Tyger Valley would then be bowled out for 130, handing
Tyger Valley a mammoth 190-run victory.
Madness.
